NYC carriage horses work routine supplements the need for daily pasture turnout, however the horses do vacation on rural pastures for a *minimum* of five weeks per year to be licensed to work in NYC. (Similar to London's Household Cavalry who get a month of vacation and The Royal Mews horses who get six weeks of vacation.) Some of the NYC carriage horses even spend up to twenty four weeks of the year on vacation. Typically the horses are trailered to pastures in Pennsylvania or upstate New York.
